Student interpretation of the nominated book, Waiting to Dive
Grant Road School in Regina hosted first Willow Awards' Launch on October 18, 2002. The entire school prepared for and participated in the launch. The perimeter of the school's resource centre was lined with student book fair stations interpreting the Diamond Willow and Snow Willow books. A performance space for a dramatic interpretation of Shining Willow nominee, Emma's Cold Day by Margriet Ruus, was kept clear in the centre of the room. Throughout the school, displays of student work reflected their reading of the nominated books.

Parents, Willow Awards members, and friends crowded into the available chairs in the resource centre for the official launch. Those who did not attend the official launch had the opportunity to view the unveiling of The Willow Award, a glass work by Jacqueline Berting, and the presentation of a set of the nominated books donated by Bob Sawatsky of National Book Service, when the Willow Awards Launch program was repeated for the entire school.
It was a terrific launch!
