Students and teachers from 5 schools, local authors and a wide range of community members participated in the event. Artwork, charts and a student-made big book introduced the nominated books in visual format.
The École Wagner Glee Club sang: "We want to thank you for writing these books; thank you for all you've done." The Grade Two Class from École Alex Wright Community School introduced the Shining Willow books with a Rap written by their teacher, Gail Haight. The Grade Four Class from École Wagner dramatized Jillian Jiggs and the Great Big Snow. Arthur Slade, author of Diamond nominated The Return of the Grudstone Ghosts spoke to the assembled students.
The morning ended with each class being read to by community member or a high school student. The Willow Awards would like to thank Elaine Rospad, teacher-librarian at École Wagner and École Alex Wright, and all the teacher-librarians of the Nipawin SD for organizing a wonderful Launch.
The 2004 Willows Award Launch will be held at Kincaid Central School in Kincaid.
