93 students from kindergarten to grade 12 worked in teams to introduce the nominees and kick off the 2004 Willow Awards' reading cycle. A video showed the teams preparing book banners for the parade. Costumed students representing the Shining Willow Books were interviewed by their senior partners.
Older students read summaries of the Diamond and Snow Willow books while a Power Point slide projected the cover and the author's picture. The High School Choir sang "Without Dreams How Will Wishes Come True" during the Parade of Banners. Grades 3 and 4 entertained with their fine choral speaking of Gramma's Willow Tree and Willow.
Students and teachers from 5 other schools in the Golden Plains School Division and many invited guests filled the gym and enjoyed the celebration. All of the nominated authors had been invited. In the hallway a large bulletin board displayed each author's picture with the e-mailed message.
The Willow Awards' Board would like to congratulate the teachers and students for holding a terrific Launch, and would like to thank them for all the work and dedication involved. The Board would also like to recognize Kincaid Central School for being the first school to become a member of the Willow Awards in its inaugural year.
