Stephen is dog sledding with his father in Southern Alberta. He is thrilled and very excited until a log knocks his father off the sled and the team takes off at full speed. Stephen, from his vantage point on the runaway sled, is terrified; however, he keeps his wits about him and with the help of Skoki, the lead dog, he is able to stop the sled before it goes over a high cliff.
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Georgia loved drawing as long as she can remember. Georgia has been hooked on chalk pastels since her mom gave her a set when she was in grade four.
She graduated from the Alberta College of Art in 1982 where she studied Visual Communication. She first used her art for children by drawing pictures for her Sunday School class while telling Bible stories. Since then she has slowly been developing her skills in the field of children's illustrating.
She married, had two kids and settled in the countryside of Central Alberta.. She translates the countryside's pattern and beauty into chalk pastel renderings.
Georgia has a philosophy about children's books: "The illustrations in my children's book were much more time consuming than the writing. But the story must be a strong structure, like a skeleton, to hold the artwork. The illustrations are the fleshy, showy part."
