This book, part of the 'Wheels at Work' series, explains some of the machines that are commonly used in the country. Double page illustrations show a tractor, farm truck, cultivator, sprayer, feed truck, school bus, livestock trailer, baler, combine, grain buggy, drilling rig, horse trailer, and plough. In the accompanying text, which explains the use of each machine, the name of the machine is in bold type. The illustrations, which are very detailed, complement the text.

About the Author

Don Kilby

Don Kilby is from Elora, ON

Being a creator of picture books for children was not exactly the career path I set out on many years ago, but it is one that has proven to be most rewarding and fulfilling, as well as supremely challenging.

With each new book comes the opportunity to recreate a unique little slice of the world, through words and pictures.

I have written, as well as illustrated, books about mighty machines that work on the highways, construction sites, cities and countryside.

Other books I have illustrated have told the story of a little girl in China that takes place over fifty years ago, a fisherman who travels by boat on a train across the whole of Canada, a girl who is visited by fairies on her birthday and a boy who must help his family save their homestead from a raging fire in the time of the first settlement of the prairies.

I have always tried to create a real, accurate and believable world for the story to take place in. My hope is to pass along to the reader the excitement I received from learning about the fascinating events and details that make up each book.

Currently, I live with my wife Nancy, along our dog and cats, in an old stone farmhouse located just outside the picturesque village of Elora, Ontario.
