Ten-year-old Marty and his best friend Remi are a very resourceful pair. In a school filled with bullies, they always have each other's backs. When graffiti is discovered on school property, they are determined to get to the bottom of things - until Remi is blamed and a misunderstanding puts a chill on the boys' friendship. Forced to team up with his nemesis, Trina, Marty will have to use all of his skills and ingenuity to find the real culprits, clear Remi's name, and win back the trust of his only friend. In the process Marty may just find some new friends in unexpected places.

Marty Chan is from Edmonton, AB

Marty Chan is a nationally known dramatist, screenwriter and author. He won the 2005 City of Edmonton Book Prize for this juvenile novel, The Mystery of the Frozen Brains, and was Gemini-nominated and gold-medal winner for The Orange Seed Myth and Other Lies Mothers Tell. His Canadian play Mom, Dad, I’m Living With A White Girl continues to tour internationally.

  1. This book mentions lots of monsters. Make a booklet about monsters. Illustrate each monster and write 2-5 sentences about each one. A book from the library should help you with this project.

  2. In the story the librarian tells the boys about a myth originating in Haiti about zombies. Do some research on the Internet. Does this myth really exist?

  3. Your library should have some new graphic novels about Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys. Do a series search to find the books in each series in your library collection. Be sure to read one if you love mysteries. There is a website about The Hardy Boys that can help you with your search.

  4. There was lots of bullying and teasing in this story. Go to a website about bullying. Learn about bullying. Chose 2-3 bullying situations from the story. Write what you believe the victims, or bystander's response should have been to stop the bullying.

  5. Go to the Nancy Drew movie website If you go to Emma's blog you can send your friend a message from Nancy Drew. This is really cool!!
