Shining Willow Nominee
Clip-Clop
By Eleanor Koldofsky, Illustrated by David Parkins.
This book is a tribute to the horses at the beginning of the 20th century that worked with humans to provide goods, transportation, and services, on city streets. Consuela recognizes the many different wagons by the varying clip-clop sounds of the horses. Consuela is never happier than the day she sits on a horse to have her picture taken for 25 cents.
About the Author
In a birthday gift to herself, Eleanor Koldofsky left school at sixteen to educate herself and earn a living. Now, three sons, some record producing (several gold records and awards for excellence), filmmaking (more awards), publishing (poetry on 3 continents, The Healing Heart), and four grandchildren later, she writes about her childhood.
At 10, she sold her only pair of shoes to buy a concert ticket. Not only did she make conkers that beat the boys in her neighbourhood, Eleanor can still pitch a cherry pit farther than her sons.
