Ten-year-old Eddy who lives on the Queen Charlotte Islands with his Mother and grandparents, loves to go fishing with his Grandfather. After listening to his Grandfather’s stories about “the one that got away”, Eddy starts to think that catching the big snapper will help solve his family’s problems.

  1. Many different kinds of sea life were mentioned in this story, for example snapper, halibut, and oysters. Using books or the internet, find the kinds of sea life Eddie would have found living in the water near the Queen Charlotte Islands. Make a list of at least 10 animals with a brief description of each.
  2. Eddie loved to listen to his grandfather’s tall tales about the big snapper.  Find another tall tale.   Read it to another person.
  3. Illustrate one of Eddie’s grandfather’s tall tales.
