Good-natured and ever-hungry Farley goes wherever his nose leads him. One delicious smell leads to another, and as Farley meets new friends and explores new parts of town, he also uses his nose to help a little boy find his way home. But will Farley be able to find his own way home?

Lynn Johnston

Lynn Johnston is from Corbeil, ON

Lynn Johnston is the creator of one of the world’s most popular comic strips, For Better or for Worse®, which began in 1979 and is published in more than 20 countries. Johnston, a Pulitzer Prize nominee, has received many honours, including the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award and the prestigious Order of Canada. Farley, the Old English sheepdog from her comic strip, is based on a beloved dog—of the same name—she once owned. Johnston lives in Northern Ontario.


Beth Cruikshank

Beth Cruikshank is from Miami, MB

Beth Cruikshank has been a practising veterinarian and has worked with the Computers for Schools program in Canada. She has also been a freelance writer for many years and frequently collaborates with Johnston on For Better or for Worse® projects. Beth has owned (or been owned by) hundreds of pets of every size, shape and sort. She lives in Miami, Manitoba, in the rural heartland of Canada.

Part of the proceeds for this book go to help animals needing veterinary services.

Activities

1. Ask the students how, as a group, they can help out a local animal group, or animal shelter. List all the ways in which they can help. Donate collections or $ to the local humane society or animal welfare group.

2. After reading the story have students write from the point of view of a lost dog or cat. Where did they go, what adventures did he/she have, happy ending?

3. Send the stories to the local animal shelter or animal welfare organization.

We had the willow awards were in our school and you donated a autographed book to our shcool and i won the book farley. I love the book and i love the illistrations.
