Just when you think nothing in your miserable life is going to change, something  happens. Fraternal twins, Charlie and Lacey, are invited to a remote English village for the reading of the last will and testament of their mysterious Uncle Jonathan. They hope to get money, and lots of it, but to Charlie’s horror, he ends up getting the family curse ... “You must sleep in water every night of your life or you shall shrivel up and die.” Can Lacey solve the mystery of the curse and save her brother? She has until midnight or Charlie will be doomed.

L.M. (Lucy) Falcone was a couch potato growing up and loved watching television. Her parents were immigrants and rarely did a book find its way into her home — that is, until she discovered the local library. Encouraged by her beloved Grade 5 teacher, Mrs. Cherwaty, to read her short stories aloud to the class, Lucy felt a spark ignite that has never been extinguished. She knew, from the tender age of ten, that she wanted to be a writer, although along the way she also became a teacher and a private investigator. Eventually she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her writing career. Here she rubbed elbows with celebrities (and thighs with Sidney Poitier!). During these years she completed thirteen screenplays and wrote for such series as The Littlest Hobo, The New Monkees, and Nickelodeon’s hugely popular Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Upon returning to Canada, Lucy remembered the excitement young viewers had for the spooky Are You Afraid of the Dark? stories and began writing supernatural thrillers for the same pre-teen audience. She loves writing for this age group because they still believe in magic — and so does she! Her novels The Mysterious Mummer, Walking with the Dead, The Devil, The Banshee and Me and The Midnight Curse have garnered multiple nominations and several wins including the Silver Birch and Diamond Willow awards.

Lucy lives in Toronto with her cat, Puss.

a.    After reading and rereading the text (part of the texts), have students brainstorm and list the main events in order
b.    Provide time for small groups of students to consider each event and determine the level of excitement.  The excitement level can be plotted onto a grid to create a profile of the plot.
c.    Compare the plotted grids and determine which parts of the story are most exciting to least exciting. Make some assumptions about why the author did it in this way.

I loved the book, but I thought the ending ended not to good. I was thinking that instead of making it a happy ending it could be sad. In my alternative ending I put that Charlie died but I was also thinking that Charlie could have been stuck with the curse forever. Other than that I absolutly loved the book! :D
