Best friends Boney, Itchy and Squeak are the “Odd” kids, a bit different from everybody else. They hang out in their treehouse in Boney’s backyard, hiding from the bully, Larry Harry.  The “Odds” have had enough, and they’re plotting to use their knowledge of science to get even, and to end Larry’s reign of terror.

Suggested Activities

Activity #1:  Boney, Itchy and Squeak hang out in their clubhouse a lot. It seems to have a lot of useful features, including escape hatches, lookouts, a cooler for the boys’ food, and a reference library. If you could build the ultimate clubhouse, what would it look like? What features would it include? Draw and label a diagram of it, and write about it in a paragraph.

Activity #2: The Odds enter the “Invention Convention” every year with interesting creations. This year’s creation, a ghost detector, is made from random materials such as “twelve-gauge copper wire” and “rare earth magnets”. Can you write about or draw an invention that you might create from various household items? It definitely doesn’t have to be a real invention. (A good way to start might be to walk around your classroom or home and look at random items. Pick five or so to start, and put them together. Does it remind you of anything? What could it be used for?)
