Edeet Ravel was born on an Israeli kibbutz. By the time she was six, she knew that she was destined to become a writer and hoped that one day she would write a book as good as Alice in Wonderland, which her father read to her every afternoon during the Visit to Parents (in those days, children on a kibbutz only spent about two hours a day with their parents, but were actually quite spoiled). With this goal in mind, she wrote over ten books for children and adults before she finally sent one out to publishers.
Edeet is the author of three award-winning, internationally acclaimed novels on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Ten Thousand Lovers was translated into several languages and was the recipient of many literary distinctions, including a nomination for the Governor General’s Award. Look for Me won the Hugh MacLennan Prize. A Wall of Light was a finalist for the Giller Award and the Regional Commonwealth Prize, and also won the Jewish Book Award of Canada and the I. J. Segal Award. The Saver, for young adults, follows the successful Pauline btw series for middle grade readers, which was selected for the Canadian Children’s Book Centre Best Books, OLA Best Bets, and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre Choice. Edeet’s most recent novel, Your Sad Eyes and Unforgettable Mouth, was selected for the “Globe 100” list of top books of the year.
